Shoe Fit
Every shoe on the wall of a running or athletic store has a purpose. There is a reason why someone should be in one of those shoes. All shoes, however, aren’t made for everyone. With that being said, how do you know which shoe is right for you?
We can help you answer that question and navigate the shoe fit landscape.
There are many different factors that influence the type of shoe you need. These include not only the size and width of your foot, which shoe stores measure using a Brannock’s Device, but also the shape of your foot, your foot type, the range of motion of your big toe, foot and ankle, your knee position, the amount of rolling in motion (pronation) and rolling out motion (supination) of your foot, the type of activity you will be doing in those shoes, and several other factors.
We typically buy shoes based on look and ‘first feel’, meaning we like the way they look, then we put them on, stand up, maybe take a few steps and say “that feels good”. This unfortunately doesn’t give us an indication as to how the shoe will perform when we run or during functional activities.
Shoes are valuable investments, as they can dramatically influence the health and function of our feet and legs. Inappropriately fit shoes can lead to bunions, blisters, and even injury. Whenever you are looking for new running or athletic shoes it is always best to consult an expert in the matter. Let us help put you in the shoes that are right for you.
